Initiated in 2017 and concluded in 2019, the design process for the Lakelands scheme reached a significant milestone with the acquisition of planning permission in April 2022. Not without challenges, this proposal faced resistance from local Enniskillen traders, making it a contentious application. The envisioned development encompasses six retail units, including two garden centres, an indoor adventure playground, a 54-bedroom hotel, a five-screen cinema, an eight-lane bowling alley, a coffee pod, a drive-through restaurant, a 12-bay self-service pay-at-pump filling station, and a substantial 751 parking spaces. Phase 1, currently underway, has already secured commitments from established retail entities, with an anticipated completion date in spring 2025.
